Community Projects

Food bank
For a number of years, Ratho Church has run a small Foodbank, known as The Storehouse. It is there to help any residents of Ratho or Ratho Station who find themselves in need of emergency assistance to feed themselves and their family. In addition, on occasions we are contacted by Social Services to assist with people made homeless who are housed temporarily by Social Services in the Travel Lodge at Ratho Station. This is particularly challenging as these people have no means of cooking anything. As we have no refrigeration, we stock only a range of dry goods and supplement this by buying fresh items when these are required. We are supported by generous donations from Church members, local residents and some local organisations such as Ratho Primary School and the Ratho Football Club. We rely solely on these donations which may be in the form of either groceries, supermarket vouchers or cash. We have a dedicated phone which we use for the Foodbank. The number is: 07788701980 Anyone requiring assistance should ring this number and we will try our best to help. The phone is monitored regularly and any messages left on it will be actioned. We normally deliver supplies to the person who needs them as opposed to the foodbank being “open” at certain times. The same number should be used by anyone who wishes to make a donation, and we are happy to collect items from anyone in the area.

Community Listening
The Community Listening Project was set up by the Church and is run by and for people in our Community and beyond. The purpose of the project is to provide opportunities for the people of the community to come together to support and encourage each other. We run lots of different initiatives which we would love for you to visit.

Our main activity is the Hub running on a Monday and Thursday in East Calder Church Hall from 11.00am-3.00pm.

This is for people to come and share company, refreshments and a bowl of soup. Lots of opportunities for chat, laughter and friendships.
